Day 16: Olympics

Yesterday, the Dutch win historic Speed Skating run with two Golds in team pursuits for Long Track.

In a fitting conclusion to Speed Skating’s run in Sochi, the Dutch won Gold in both the Men’s and Women’s pursuit, adding upon a medal trove unmatched in Speed Skating’s Olympic history. In terms of medals won in a single Games, Netherlands stands 10 ahead of its next-closest competitor, East Germany, which won 13 medals in 1988.

The Dutch men won Gold setting a new Olympic record by more than two seconds. But the men were not the only ones to set an Olympic record, the Netherlands also set an Olympic record on the women’s side.

Day 15: Olympics

Today has been an exciting day at the Olympics in Sochi for Canada…

Canada finishes 1 & 2 in Olympic Women’s Skicross winning he Gold and Silver!! Marielle Thompson and Kelsey Serwa, not only did they fly through the air on the course.. but they even got great air even with their ski boots on, kicking back their heels and flailing their arms so wide, they almost dropped the flowers.

Canada wins Gold medal in Men’s Olympic Curling, which makes this win a third consecutive Olympic title in Men’s Curling with an overwhelming 9-3 victory over Britain in eight ends to complete the country’s sweep of the Gold medals at the Sochi Games. Canada became the first country to win Men’s and Women’s Olympic Curling Golds in the same year! πŸ™‚

Charle Cournoyer wins Bronze in Men’s 500m short track for Canada! Woohoo! This is his very 1st career Olympic medal.

Day 14: Olympics

Canada Wins Gold in Women’s Olympic Curling. Canada denied Sweden a third straight Olympic title with a tension-filled 6-3 victory at the Sochi Games, completing an unbeaten campaign of 11 wins β€” an unprecedented achievement in the women’s game.

The championship means Canada’s women curlers have finally stepped out of the shadow of their men’s teams, who have won gold at the last two Olympics and will go for another on Friday against Britain. This win marks Canada’s first Olympic women’s curling gold since 1998. πŸ™‚

Canada’s Women’s Hockey Team wins Gold in Sochi in over time! Now was there ever really any thought of something different happening? Come on now?!! πŸ˜‰

Canada defeats the U.S. to win their fourth straight Women’s Hockey Gold. The Americans, who won the first Olympic title in women’s hockey at the 1998 Nagano Games, now have lost to the Canadians in the championship game in three of the past four Games.

Day 12: Olympics

Today Team Canada won the Silver medal in Women’s 3000m short track relay.. Yay! Canada’s team β€” Marianne St-Gelais, ValΓ©rie Maltais, Marie-Ève Drolet and Jessica Hewitt.

For the Canadians, the silver medal is notable for a big reason: Canada has now won a medal in every single Olympic short track speed skating relay since the sport’s introduction to the Olympics as a medal sport in 1992

Canada’s Mike Riddle has won a silver medal in men’s ski halfpipe at the Sochi Olympics. Ski halfpipe is making its Olympic debut in Sochi which makes this medal even more exciting! πŸ™‚

Day 10: Olympics

Yesterday was Day 10 of the Olympics, and the Canadian team did not disappoint. They won two more medals.

Canada won a Silver medal in Women’s Snowboard Cross… Yay! Dominique Maltais felt the joy of Olympic success eight years ago and the crushing blow of failure four years later in Vancouver when she crashed hard in training just minutes before her snowboard cross event started. She had injured herself, spitting up blood, she failed to make it out of the qualification round. But that changed yesterday when she became the first athlete to win two Olympic medals in women’s snowboard cross.

Canadian Jan Hudec tied for the Bronze medal in the Men’s Alpine Super G becoming the first Canadian to do so in 20 years. Hudec says he buried a loonie at the finish line to give him luck in the competition. πŸ™‚

Day 9: Olympics

Today has started out amazing… Canadian long track speed skater – Denny Morrison – has just won his second medal at the Sochi Games. This time, a bronze in the 1500m. Poland won the Gold, and the Netherlands won the Silver.. πŸ˜€
